All Taylor Swift does is make music and break records. Seemingly every year, Swift breaks another barrier. By this point, anything she releases will be universally acclaimed by her fans, but she arguably works harder than anyone in the industry given how many albums she puts out on top of her tours. Her awards are earned, not given, and now she has another one in her collection.
Early Wednesday morning, it was announced that Swift had won the Songwriter of the Year award at the 2025 BMI Pop Awards. The awards are presented by Broadcast Music Inc. It's the second year in a row that Swift wins that award. According to the organization, Swift has won 72 BMI awards in total now.
Taylor Swift named Songwriter of the Year by Broadcast Music Inc.
The award was given to Swift mainly due to the incredible numbers behind her hit songs. According to BMI, she wrote "seven of the previous year's most-performed songs".
- "Don't Blame Me"
- "Down Bad"
- "Fortnight"
- "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart"
- "Is It Over Now?"
- "Now That We Don't Talk"
- "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"
Four of those songs were from "The Tortured Poets Department", which released in April of last year. More surprisingly, perhaps, two of them were from her 2023 album, "1989". Spanning even further, "Don't Blame Me" was released way back in 2017, on her "Reputation" album.
That all goes to show how timeless Swift's music is to her fans. Swift dominates the streaming charts for a reason, and her old songs get as much play as her most recent releases. The global superstar isn't slowing down, and 2025 could be yet another massive year if she releases another album.
