The 2025 Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, was marked by glamorous moments... and also by controversies.

One of the most talked about was Lisa, K-pop star and new member of the acclaimed series "The White Lotus", who made her debut at the gala in an outfit by French fashion house Louis Vuitton that quickly sparked criticism on social media.

This year's theme, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style", sought to pay homage to dandy style within black culture. Lisa attended in an ensemble consisting of a black embroidered blazer, tights with the iconic Vuitton monogram and a sheer lace bodysuit that left very little to the imagination, especially in the lower area.

But the controversy did not only focus on the boldness of the design. Upon closer inspection, the lace on her underwear showed faces, one of which many s identified as civil rights activist Rosa Parks. The detail was considered offensive and out of place, especially because of the position of the print.

The harsh criticism for Lisa on social media

Criticism on social media was not long in coming, as the moment became even more controversial when old videos of Lisa and other Blackpink were recalled, where they allegedly used a racial slur on stage.

None of those involved has issued a public apology to date, which has generated further outrage.

The graphic design was created by artist Henry Taylor, as part of Louis Vuitton's spring 2024 collection, under the creative direction of Pharrell Williams.

According to a brand spokesperson consulted by The Cut, the portraits belong to "people who have been part of the artist's life". However, it has not been confirmed whether one of these figures is actually Rosa Parks.

Despite the official explanation, the phrase "Rosa Parks underwear" quickly became a trend, while many s described the outfit as "the worst of the night". So far, Lisa has not commented on the matter.

The controversy reveals how the line between art, fashion and cultural respect can become blurred, especially at high-profile events such as the Met Gala, and while the design sought to pay homage, for many the message was completely lost.
