What a mess this story could turn out to be, with a bleak outcome for singer Sean "Diddy" Combs. At his trial in New York, he ditched his jail clothes for a blue sweater and didn't hide his nervousness in front of the judges.
"I'm sorry, Your Honor, I'm a little nervous today," Diddy told Judge Arun Subramanian.
Not only that, but he also asked for a few minutes of recess. It seemed as if Sean Combs was having a panic attack and was nervous because he has a lot at stake at this point. The 55-year-old singer insists he is innocent, but he remains behind bars.
The trial is expected to last two months, with celebrities such as Kanye West and Michael B. Jordan mentioned as possible witnesses. Twelve jurors and six alternates will decide whether Combs ran Bad Boy Records as a criminal enterprise. The situation remains tense, and even though Sean has behaved decently, there is still no outcome.
What is "Diddy" accused of?
Authorities allege that the singer orchestrated a network of abuse and used his fame to cover it up. The allegations detail rituals known as "freak-offs" in which women were drugged and forced to participate in extreme sexual acts, some under duress and surveillance.
According to the latest developments from prosecutors, "Diddy" abused his power and fame to silence women, even recording them to pressure them into believing he had the palm of his hand because he had the material to threaten and intimidate them.
His lawyers are clearly defending him, arguing that this is all about his private sex life and that everything was consensual.
"This was his private sex life, defined by consent, not coercion," his legal team said.
The trial has no near-term end in sight, but they are moving quickly while respecting the legal process.
Judge Subramanian aims to have the jury seated within three days, maintaining the fast pace of the trial. If all goes according to plan, opening statements from both sides will begin on Monday, May 12.
Meanwhile, 'Diddy' remains in jail and the situation does not look good for the 55-year-old singer, who sports a military haircut with white hair and whose first reaction was to hug his lawyers as soon as he saw them, placing all his hope in them.
