James Van Der Beek has been through hell and nightmare in the last few months when he was diagnosed with colon cancer, a disease that has completely changed his life for the worse. He is trying to turn the page in the best possible way.
On this occasion, James used his Instagram to share more details about what he is going through in a video he titled "What Cancer Taught Me'.
"When I was younger, I defined myself as an actor, which was never very satisfying, and then I became a husband and that was much better, and then I became a father and that was the best. They took away all those definitions that were so important to me," Van Der Beek said in a clear reference to the fact that he had distanced himself from his family.
James said it was the most complicated year of his life, and he continued to share reflections that touched more than one person's heart.

As if that were not enough, Van Der Beek went on to detail his separation from his wife and children due to his cancer:
"I was away for treatment, so I could no longer be a husband who helped my wife," Van Der Beek said. "I could no longer be a father who could pick up his kids, put them to bed and be there for them. I couldn't be a provider because I wasn't working."
"I was faced with the question, 'If I'm too skinny and too weak to be alone in an apartment with cancer, what am I?"
In 2010, James sealed his romantic fate with Kimberly Van Der Beek, having put his past with Heather McComb behind him. From this union, his feminine jewels blossomed: Olivia, Annabel, Emilia and Gwendolyn, along with his brave knights: Joshua and Jeremiah.
