Demi Moore arrived on Sunday night at the Oscars ceremony determined to take the golden statuette home, but when Emma Stone announced the winner for Best Actress as Mikey Madison, the blow was very painful.

Moore "can't help but feel heartbroken" after losing at the 97th Academy Awards, having won in the same category at the Golden Globes for her role in the film The Substance, and "was really hoping to have gotten this win," a source told Page Six

"Demi is taking this loss very badly because she felt that this was finally her chance to take home an Academy Award," the source added.

The 62-year-old actress "is thrilled for Mikey and all the other women who were nominated for this award, but of course it was a great disappointment not to hear her name mentioned

"Many people approached Demi at the Vanity Fair Oscar party to show her love and for her work," the source added

Moore and Madison were nominated for one of the most coveted awards of the night alongside Fernanda Torres for "I'm Still Here," Karla Sofia Gascon for "Emilia Perez" and Cynthia Erivo for "Wicked."

Moore, ed for her role in "Ghost", looked visibly upset and clenched her jaw when she heard the 25-year-old's name instead of her own, according to a video shared on X.

After arriving on stage stunned, Madison addressed the audience while holding her Oscar and said: "This is so surreal. I grew up in Los Angeles, but Hollywood always felt very far away, so to be here, standing in this room today, is really incredible".

The 25-year-old "Scream" actress also addressed the actresses who were nominated alongside her and said: "I also want to acknowledge the thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful and impressive work of my fellow nominees."

"I am honored to be recognized alongside all of you. This is a dream come true. I'll probably wake up tomorrow."
