Jada Pinkett Smith, the host of the talk show Red Table Talk, has responded to the news that Facebook Watch, the network which airs her show, is shutting down. The show, which is produced by Westbrook Studios, won a Daytime Emmy award for outstanding informative talk show in 2021. The talk show features Jada, her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and her daughter Willow Smith, discussing topics such as mental health, relationships, and race.
In an Instagram post, Jada wrote: "We are so grateful to have had such a beautiful partnership with Facebook Watch and we are sorry to see the entire team disband. We wish everyone well in their new journeys to come. We at Red Table are in talks of finding a new home and we'll see you soon."
Jada had previously spoken to Rolling Stone about her ambitions to expand the Red Table Talk brand: "To be able to sit [as] three Black women and see the variety of perspectives is really interesting, because I know a lot of people just like to put Black women in one big old pot. That myth has to be dissolved."
Facebook Watch had also aired shows such as Piece of Mind with Taraji featuring Taraji P. Henson, The Biebers on Watch, Elizabeth Olsen's drama series Sorry For Your Loss and Limetown with Jessica Biel. However, the network is ending its original programming, stopping with new seasons of its shows.
She will release her memoir soon
Despite the setback, Jada has other exciting news on the horizon. She is set to release a memoir this fall, which chronicles her journey from a difficult upbringing in Baltimore to stardom alongside her close friend 2Pac, falling in love with and marrying Will Smith, and embracing motherhood.
The book will also explore how Jada was "in crisis at age 40" and "recounts the excruciating choices she was forced to make to redefine her life in every way." At the heart of the book are "two unexpected love stories, one being Jada's complicated marriage to Will Smith, the other being the one with herself."
While the fate of Red Table Talk is uncertain, Jada's memoir promises to be a powerful exploration of her life and experiences.
