Only a day ago, Tiger Woods was criticized for his declining physique during the Open Championship press conference, where he appeared noticeably leaner.

The situation escalated when a live comment from an announcer sparked outrage among Woods' fans. The announcer suggested that Woods might be intoxicated with painkillers, causing a stir in the golf community.

Matt Fitzgerald of Whiskey Riff condemned the announcer's statement as unprofessional. The comment was made while the camera focused on Woods, with the announcer making some rather harsh comments on Woods.

"You look at the eyes, you gotta think there's a lot of painkillers being taken. Not easy," Fitzgerald stated.

Whether Woods had actually taken painkillers remains unknown, and that is what made the statement so bizarre.

The speculation is significant because Woods has a history of leg and back pain. However, it is not the use of painkillers that has enraged fans but the public nature of the comment, which they see as disrespectful to the golf legend.

Fans have been left livid at Fitzgerald

The golf community expressed their disapproval of the comments made by the announcer, and despite their concerns about Woods' performance, united in defense of him, emphasizing that an announcer should not publicly speculate about Woods' condition.

They stressed that Woods, an 82-time PGA Tour winner, deserves respect.

"This is crazy disrespectful," one fan posted on Twitter.

Woods' long-term injuries have required him to rely on medication, something which Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent from Excel Sports Management, previously highlighted.

"He's been in just immense pain for so very long that taking prescribed medication was a must, just to be able to get up and move."

Given Woods' history and the need for rehabilitation, fans viewed the announcer's comment as inappropriate.
