Flamengo director who interacted with Florentino and Abidal has coronavirus

The coronavirus has reached Brazilian football, with Flamengo vice-president Mauricio Gomes de Mattos testing positive in the second test for the disease.

Mattos recently travelled to Spain and held meetings with Real Madrid and Barcelona officials, including Florentino Perez, with whom he even visited the museum at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, and Eric Abidal.

The Flamengo president, Rodolfo Landim, and vice-president of marketing, Gustavo Oliveira, accompanied Mattos on this trip.

Mattos is in charge of the embassies and consulates that the Brazilian club have all over the world in order to unite Flamengo fans living outside of Brazil and to internationalise the Flamengo brand.

In fact, Mattos even published a tweet in which he can be seen amongst Real Madrid officials, such as Florentino, Juni Calafat and Jose Angel Sanchez.

In Barcelona, the Flamengo delegate not only met with Abidal but also sporting director Ramon Planes, Franc Carbo, who is the director of sports management, and Jordi Mora, who is in charge of the world confederation of clubs.

Mattos has been in the Santa Luzia Hospital in Brasilia since last Thursday.

The confirmation has come just on the day when all Flamengo's players and officials have been tested for the coronavirus at the club's training ground.

After returning from Spain, Mattos travelled to Barranquilla (Colombia) to accompany the team in the Copa Libertadores match against Junior, which Flamengo won 2-1.

The director had direct with players, coaching staff and other of the club.
