Inter Miami had an historic day after a come-from-behind win over New England Revolution on Saturday on Decision Day in the MLS; they started down in the score 2-0 and then came back to score the final six goals to win it 6-2 and Lionel Messi once again was in the middle of it.
The Argentinian star scored the last three goals of the game and in the process, he managed to write a new chapter in the records books of the league. Luis Suarez tied the game after two quick goals and Inter took the lead in the second half thanks to Benjamin Cremaschi but the best was yet to come.
In the last half hour of the game, Lionel Messi broke through with a hat-trick at 78', 81' and 89' minutes to not only take the match ball, but also to set another record on the night.
The unstoppable run
With his three goals, Lionel Messi is now the top scorer in the history of Inter Miami with 33 goals; Leo Campana held that place previously with 32 goals until the Argentinian player arrived.
That was not all, as with the victory, Inter Miami set the record for points in a season in the MLS with 74 points and left behind New England Revolution's record of 33 points in 2021, interestingly enough by beating them.
As if that were not enough, Lionel Messi also increased his assist rate to 16, leading the league in this statistic. At the end of the match, Inter Miami also received the ers' Shield trophy and now will wait and see who is their next rival in the playoffs.
