Jamie Vardy signs new Leicester City contract

English Premier League champions Leicester City have extended the contract of their top scorer Jamie Vardy for a further four seasons after the player turned down a move to Arsenal.

The striker had been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners after it was reported that the London club activated his release clause with a bid of roughly 26 million euros. Yet the player has decided to stay at the King Power Stadium.

"Leicester City have today agreed with the representatives of Jamie Vardy to extend the England international's contract with the Premier League champions for a further four years," a statement on the club's website said.

"Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie [Vardy]'s future and confirm his long term commitment to Leicester City Football Club."

The 29-year-old netted 24 goals over the course of the 2015/16 Premier League campaign, just one fewer than top scorer Harry Kane, and is currently representing his country at Euro 2016, where he has scored one goal.
