Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will return to the ring for his second fight of the year, defending his 168-pound championship against undefeated Puerto Rican fighter Edgar Berlanga.

The highly anticipated bout is set for Saturday, September 14, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Alvarez, the reigning super middleweight champion, has successfully defended his title five consecutive times and now faces Berlanga, a rising star with an impressive undefeated record.

The fight will take place during Mexican Independence Day weekend, a significant date for Alvarez, who often competes on this holiday in front of his home country's ers.

Canelo has his eye on long-time rival

Despite the focus on Berlanga, Canelo already has potential future plans in mind.

According to ESPN, Alvarez is considering a rematch with Dmitry Bivol, whom he previously lost to in a light heavyweight bout.

That rematch could depend on Bivol's performance in a possible unification fight against Artur Beterbiev.

If successful, it would give Canelo a chance to avenge his loss and capture additional titles in the light heavyweight division.

These plans, however, may once again delay a much-anticipated fight against David Benavidez.

Benavidez has been waiting for three years to face Alvarez, but Canelo's focus on a rematch with Bivol could leave Benavidez out of the equation once more.

As Alvarez prepares for his fight with Berlanga, all eyes are on the T-Mobile Arena to see how the Mexican champion performs.
