Mike Tyson displays an incredible arrogance that will anger Jake Paul even more: I don't think he can hurt me

Iron Mike Tyson declared Jake Paul will not be able to catch him when the pair meet in the boxing ring in his first professional fight since 2005 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on November 15, 2024.

There have been widespread concerns that, whilst Tyson undoubtedly possesses a skill advantage, his age of 58 could leave him vulnerable to serious damage in the ring so there will be heavier gloves, shorter rounds and only eight of them as sanctioned by the governing body.

Jake Paul sends startling message to Mike Tyson before Mike Perry bout

But the ex-undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, widely regarded as one of the most fearsome fighters of all-time, rubbishes the claims and insists he doesn't even think Paul will be able to catch him, let alone hurt him.

"Can I be honest?" Tyson said to Esquire. "I don't think he can hurt me. He's not going to hit me with the jab."

Their initial bout was scheduled for Saturday, July 20 but had to be cancelled when an ulcer flare up on board a flight saw Tyson lose critical training and preparation time for the scrap which will be exclusively aired by Netflix.

However, Paul said that as they both agreed to spend the same amount of time training and preparing, they would push the event back until the latter stages of the year which is why November 15 has been booked in.

Tyson's not in it for the money

Many people are wondering why, at the age of 58 and just a few years away from being considered a senior citizen, Tyson wanted to get into the ring again and pointed to money being the driving factor.

However, despite Paul earning $30m from his fight against Tommy Fury highlighting the following he has, Tyson insists is not the green of Benjamin Franklin's hundred dollar bills pulling him into the ring, it's the thrill of the night.

"I'm a glory junkie. I love people thinking about me all day," Tyson added to Esquire. "I'd rather live a short life of glory than a long life of obscurity. It's just who I am.

"This is all I started fighting to get all this f***ing status. I'm going to be chasing it for the rest of my life. I know that. I'm never going to get what I want, because I'm one of those gluttons for pain. I can never get enough."
