Ryan Garcia is facing a difficult time at the present moment after he failed a drugs test, yet he can count on the of WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman.
The New York State Athletics Commission has handed Ryan Garcia a one-year ban from boxing after he tested positive for ostarine. The ban includes the forfeiture of his 1.2-million-dollar contract purse and a 10,000-dollar fine.
According to NYSAC's ruling, Garcia can resume fighting after April 20, 2025, provided he produces clean urine tests before his license is reissued.
Additionally, Garcia's win over Devin Haney has been overturned to a no-contest. However, Sulaiman assured that the WBC would not impose harsh punishments on Garcia from their end.
What is the extent of Sulaiman's ?
The WBC, as a sanctioning body, has the authority to bar athletes from competing for their titles, as seen with Russian boxers after the Russia-Ukraine war and their refusal to recognize Amanda Serrano's twelve three-minute rounds fights.
Yet, for Garcia, who draws significant revenue with his bouts, the WBC appears to be adopting a more ive stance.
"We don't care to punish him. We want to help Ryan, the human being. He is suffering, going through difficulties." Sulaiman stressed on Twitter.
Devin Haney has been celebrating the NYSAC's decision, viewing it as justice served. However, he criticized Sulaiman's ive post.
On his Instagram story, Haney condemned the WBC's stance, referencing his recent purse bid with Sandor Martin.
"WBC called for a purse bid while I was going through damages of being cheated... this is pathetic."
