The Los Angeles Sparks made three key additions to their roster Monday night during the 2025 WNBA Draft in New York City, selecting Sarah Ashlee Barker, Sania Feagin, and Liatu King.

With the franchise looking to bounce back from an 8-32 season, these new selections represent a fresh start, and a potential turning point.

Magic Johnson praises Sparks' draft haul

The Sparks used their first pick at No. 9 to select Barker, a standout guard from Alabama whose stock rose dramatically during the NCAA Tournament.

In the second and third rounds, they added Feagin, a two-time NCAA champion from South Carolina, and King, a dominant rebounder from Notre Dame.

Each pick addresses a key area for the team, and the excitement surrounding the trio has already drawn praise from one of the franchise's most iconic voices.

Lakers legend and Sparks co-owner Magic Johnson expressed his excitement about the selections on social media, particularly highlighting Barker's scoring and defensive prowess.

"I want to welcome Sarah Ashlee Barker to our Los Angeles Sparks!"Johnson posted.

"Sarah gives us everything we are looking for in a player. She can score off the dribble, she's a dead eye 3-point shooter, and she's a defensive specialist."

Barker, a 6'0" guard, made headlines during the NCAA tournament with a 45-point performance against Maryland, capping off a season in which she led Alabama in nearly every offensive category.

Her versatility and high basketball IQ made her a favorite among scouts-and clearly among the Sparks' front office.

Johnson also welcomed Sania Feagin, calling her "another strong addition to our team."

He continued, "Sania shot 60% from the field, is a strong rebounder and shot blocker, and she knows how to win as a two-time national champion!"

Feagin's ability to protect the paint and contribute on both ends of the floor adds depth to a frontcourt that will soon feature a healthy Cameron Brink.

Liatu King, the team's final pick of the night, arrives after a breakout season at Notre Dame where she averaged a double-double.

Her rebounding instincts and motor stood out to Sparks head coach Curt Miller and his staff.

Johnson did not issue a public statement about King but her fit on the roster is expected to be impactful.

The Sparks will tip off their 2025 campaign against the expansion Golden State Valkyries on May 16.

With a mix of veteran leadership and promising young talent, the team looks to turn the page and usher in a new chapter.
