- Los Angeles Sparks. Cameron Brink gears up for Paris 2024: Excited, but not for the reasons you think
Cameron Brink, the LA Sparks rookie, has captivated fans not just with her basketball prowess but with an unexpected new ion. Known for her on-court skills and celebrity endorsements from Kim Kardashian and Shohei Ohtani, Brink's off-court life has taken an artistic turn.
The 22-year-old, who has made waves since her April WNBA draft, reveals a surprising love for pottery and watercolor, a hobby introduced by her boyfriend, Ben Felter. "My boyfriend has turned me into a huge art lover,"Brink confided in a recent PEOPLE interview. "I love pottery and watercolor, even though I'm terrible at it."
Despite her self-deprecating humor, Brink finds the artistic process incredibly rewarding. "It's really lovely to just sit down and work your brain in a different way for a little bit," she says, comparing it to the therapeutic process of getting glam, another favorite pastime. "I take pride in doing my own hair and makeup. It's very meditative."
Brink has managed to stay focused
Balancing her burgeoning basketball career with these hobbies isn't easy, but Brink manages to find time for relaxation. When she and Felter, a former Stanford rower, aren't creating art, they enjoy surfing together. In a fun twist, Brink also taught herself how to juggle, showcasing her diverse interests.
Brink's basketball journey has been impressive. Selected No. 2 overall by the Sparks, just behind Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever, Brink has been unfazed by the heightened media attention. "I tune it out. I love the media, but it's healthy to just focus on playing basketball," she states.
Her system plays a crucial role in keeping her grounded. Brink's parents, both former Virginia Tech players, are her biggest cheerleaders. "As we speak, my parents are moving me into my apartment in Los Angeles. I couldn't be more thankful for them," Brink shares. "They're my everything. I've learned so much from them, and they're my besties."
Basketball is the family business
Family ties run deep for Brink. Her godbrothers, NBA stars Steph and Seth Curry, and her godbrother's wife, Callie Rivers Curry, are integral to her life. "Callie helps handle some of my professional obligations. I adore her. It's a great intersection of family and business,"Brink says, emphasizing the strength of her network.
As the WNBA season progresses, Cameron Brink continues to shine both on and off the court, proving that her talents extend far beyond basketball.
