Saturday was a banner day for the WNBA. After a whole offseason of hype leading into the season opener between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever, the league got exactly what many fans have been asking for for a long time: Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark getting into it.

Despite the two swearing they don't have personal beef or a rivalry, tempers flared between the two second-year players during the game. Reese found herself with the ball near the rim, with Clark the only defender anywhere near her. Outsized and out of position, Clark swiped down with her right arm and fouled Reese before she could get a shot off. Reese was not happy and charged at Clark after the play.

Hard foul from Caitlin Clark over Angel Reese as she earned a flagrant foul

The two were separated, even though Clark was walking away the whole time. Clark was assessed a flagrant foul, despite fans thinking it was just a hard foul and didn't warrant anything extra. In many fans' eyes, Reese was looking for an excuse to start something in order to cover up her team's poor performance.

  • "Angel Reese trying to start a fight with Caitlin Clark to deflect the fact that she is getting her a** whopped"
  • "Angel Reese tryna hold onto her last bit of relevancy so bad starting stuff with Caitlin Clark still"
  • "Angel Reese tryna fight Caitlin Clark.. make a f***ing layup"
Exciting Updates and Stars in the 2025 WNBA Season

Caitlin Clark notches triple double in first win of 2025 WNBA season

Reese ended the game with a double-double, including a whopping 17 rebounds, but that doesn't tell the full story. She committed five turnovers and only made five of her 14 field goal attempts. Meanwhile, Clark was her prototypical efficient self. She stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, to go along with two steals and four blocks.

Through one game of the new season, it was kind of business as usual for both Reese and Clark. Fans couldn't help but call out Reese racking up rebounds on her own misses from close range, while Clark delivered a triple double. Clark won this battle, but there will be more opportunities for revenge for Reese in the future.
