The Indiana Fever came out victorious on Monday night, racking up a fifth win in their last seven games. They're currently in the second-to-last playoff spot in the WNBA, now 3.5 games ahead of the team they beat Monday, the Atlanta Dream.
Caitlin Clark once again delivered a very good overall performance, while Kelsey Mitchell poured in 29 points. The Fever needed contributions from everyone, and that included Lexie Hull, who played a season-high 30 minutes. Hull drew attention for one specific play in the game in which she "pushed" a Dream player out of bounds; and the Fever bench was loving it.
Lexie Hull becomes the unsung hero for Fever vs Dream
Hull was guarding the Dream's Rhyne Howard, who was right on the edge of the sideline. As she became off balance while trying to shield the ball from Hull, the Fever player nudged her in the midsection to fully throw her off balance and make her step out.
While that was all happening near the Fever bench, some bench players were actively signaling to the ref that she was stepping out of bounds. They then laughed when Howard got mad about the push not being called.
The Fever ended up winning the game 84-79. In such a close game, a play like that could end up as the difference. Hull played great defense all night, particularly on Howard who struggled with her shot.
