Caitlin Clark played a major role in making charter flights the new standard across the WNBA this season. However, as her Indiana Fever teammates and coaches celebrated their new luxury travel, the pampered Clark did not seem impressed by the upgrade.
Indiana Fever take first charter flight
Fever guard Erica Wheeler walked down the aisle of the charter plane, capturing the reactions of her teammates and coaching staff, who seemed blown away by the spacious jet and its accommodations.
"We on the charter!" Wheeler proclaimed, "This is nice, baby!"
However, the historic occasion didn't seem to mean as much for Clark, even though she was a big part of the push to make charter travel the new standard.
Getting used to a different standard
It simply couldn't mean as much to the record-breaking rookie, who just spent her college career experiencing the luxury of charter travel and huge NIL income at Iowa. Her routine posture and muted reaction when Wheeler ed indicated that this is simply the standard she expects for professional athletes.
But that wasn't going to dampen the party atmosphere for the rest of the Indiana team, especially the WNBA veterans who have lived through commercial flights and low salaries for years.
In a video from the plane posted by the Fever's official social media s, head coach Christie Sides said, "15 years I've been in this league, this is my first charter flight!"
As the 2024 WNBA season ushers in a new era in many ways, the video is an illustration that you have to appreciate the historic times we are living through, even if players like Clark have their goals set much bigger.
