- Indiana Fever. Caitlin Clark's shocking revelation: How a last-minute decision changed her destiny!"
Caitlin Clark is the sports star of the moment, and, as such, she is under constant scrutiny from the press and fans. Thus, it is not strange that even the most intimate conversations leak to the media, as just happened with a brief but intense exchange that she had with her former teammate, Kate Martin.
As revealed by the documentary "Full Court Press," which followed Clark's final season with the Iowa Hawkeyes to the NCAA Tournament final, the team showed great unity heading into its second appearance in the finals. However, Clark and Martin had a closer relationship.
In the documentary, you can see Martin approach Clark and yell something at her at halftime of the semifinal against the UConn Huskies. Although at first it is not known what Martin told her, reporter David Eickholt recently revealed what happened then.
Martin lifted Clark's spirits
Iowa started that game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on the wrong foot and went into halftime down 32-26.
In a pivotal moment during the semifinal, captured in the documentary, Martin approached Clark at halftime and ionately exclaimed, "You're a f*cking dog. We have the most confidence in you ever."
Martin's words of encouragement, along with the team's , boosted Clark's morale. She went on to contribute 21 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists, helping Iowa secure a 71-69 victory. Although they lost to the South Carolina Gamecocks in the finals, Clark's performance was commendable.
The next step for Clark
With her college days in the rearview mirror, Clark now faces the challenge of replicating in the WNBA what she achieved in the NCAA. Her start with the Indiana Fever in the preseason of the professional circuit has been modest yet promising.
The Fever is 1-1 in the preseason, and Caitlin has contributed 33 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Clark's official regular season debut will be Tuesday, May 14, against the Connecticut Sun at Mohegan Sun Arena.
