Women's basketball icons Nancy Lieberman and Sheryl Swoopes had a notable Labor Day, marked by a disagreement over Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark.

Throughout the 2024 WNBA season, Swoopes has shown little interest in Clark's influence on the league. In contrast, Lieberman has been outspoken, praising the former Iowa Hawkeyes star for her contributions.

Lieberman's response on "The Stephen A. Smith Show"

On Monday, Lieberman appeared on "The Stephen A. Smith Show" to discuss Swoopes' stance on the rookie point guard. Lieberman disclosed that their differing views have strained their relationship.

"My life is going to be good with or without Sheryl Swoopes," she declared on The Stephen A. Smith show.

Swoopes did not remain silent. She responded to Lieberman's comments in a post on Twitter.

"Now here you go! I get what you trying to do wit ya boy Stephen A. Smith but it ain't working. You know good and well what happened," she responded.

"And ditto...my life is good without you too (and him). You wanna go there?"

Stephen A. Smith previously criticized Swoopes for not acknowledging Clark's role in the Fever's recent success, calling her "insane." Swoopes appeared to address those comments in her latest post.

Caitlin Clark's Impact on the Indiana Fever

Since the WNBA's return from the Olympic break, Caitlin Clark has led the Indiana Fever to a 6-1 record. The team has overtaken the Phoenix Mercury for the sixth seed in the playoffs.

Following their victory over the Dallas Wings on Sunday, Indiana now sits at 17-16, marking their first winning record in over five years.

Such is the impact that Clark has had on the team, they are now set to feature in the WNBA playoffs, which is far beyond what fans expected for this campaign.
