Golden State Warriors' key player, Draymond Green, will not be hitting the court for the team's season kickoff against the Phoenix Suns. This announcement comes after the star player is still grappling with an ankle injury he suffered last month.

The injury, a left ankle sprain, took place during a casual game at Chase Center. This unfortunate incident happened just a week before the Warriors were set to begin their training camp. At that time, team officials anticipated Green's recovery time to be somewhere between four and six weeks.

Despite missing all of the preseason matches, Green had been actively participating in practices, including a full session this past Sunday. Expressing his sentiments about his health, Green mentioned, "I feel good, but I'm not completely myself yet."

The team management decided to go on the side of caution. Even though he participated in Monday's team practice and a controlled scrimmage, Green hasn't been green-lighted for an actual game. As of now, there's no definite timeline for his return to the season.

Green picked up his offensive contribution last year

In the previous season, Green showcased stellar performance, averaging 8.5 points, a score he hasn't achieved since the 2017-18 season. Besides scoring, he marked an average of 7.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists in every game. This outstanding performance earned him a spot in the All-Defensive roster for the eighth time in his 11-year tenure with the Warriors. Acknowledging his vital role, the Warriors secured him with a four-year contract extension worth $100 million earlier this year.

After a decent run last season with a 44-38 record, the Warriors had to bow out in the Western Conference semifinals. After their openeing game against the Suns, the team will be traveling to Sacramento, gearing up for a face-off with the Kings.
