A UFC-style belt, Doncic vs. Irving duels... and a format that generates all kinds of opinions

The future of the All-Star Game? Irving, 'king of the court' in a fantasy tournament

One of the big questions in the NBA is how to reach another level with its audience. The consumer, as in most sports, consumes its images on social networks but does not want to watch the 48 minutes of the game. Traditionally, the All-Star Game was an option, but the All-Star Game is in decline. They want to revolutionize it, they will present a new idea and the stars, meanwhile, also find their way to have fun and maybe there they have the solution of the future.

The All-Star has gone through various chapters. The traditional East vs. West, the captains' format and one in which the captains selected shortly before the start. For 2025, they will present a tournament with four teams, two semifinals and a final. More spectacular and shorter.

But there are more formats. One that many are crying out for is a one-on-one tournament, a more street-like example than anything else. The Dallas Mavericks took it to another level, staging a tournament called 'King of the Court'. Their players met in matches and there was a belt, like those in the UFC or boxing, at stake.

There, of course, the most skillful and streetwise player reigned supreme: Kyrie Irving. He dominated everyone with his fluidity and skills, and everyone ed in front of him. Among them was Luka Doncic, who could not cope with his best ally in the Mavericks. Irving takes the belt.

"Take the top 10 scorers and the All-Star," say fans. The tournament is popular, and it may be another revolution for a lackluster NBA All-Star Game. It is worth ing that it had 5.5 million viewers in 2024, 14% less than the minimum audience of the previous year's All-Star Game.
